One Thing, ironically, is a song about many things. This single tells many a tale about the mundane lives of Galway locals that go by the ridiculous but easy to remember monicker French Ketamine.
Opening with a seductive bass riff that repeats throughout the track, driving home the message that there is only one thing that this band has to say to you. The song takes the Pixie-esque structure of quiet verses pushing into a heavy, abrasive chorus into the arena of dirty garage rock before building into a climactic solo tinted with inebriating phasers and tambourines, taking influence from psychedelic garage gurus The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
Produced by the band themselves, mixed by drummer/wizard Liam Donnelly and mastered by Todd Tobias (previously worked with acts such as Guided by Voices) this song shows what can be done with only 3 chards... and 1 “thing”. What is this “thing” you may ask... well... you’ll have to listen for yourself. And if you can’t answer that question on your first listen, then you’ll have to listen again... and again... and again... This song’s hook is so good that by the end you’ll be a French Ketamine addict.
